What good is a burger or dog that isn't cradled in a warm, soft and scrumptious bun? Until recently, such a wonderful treat was off limits to any low carber who wanted to maintain a fat burning metabolism. That's because a typical hot dog or hamburger bun contains approximately 25 g to 38 g of blood sugar spiking carbohydrates per bun!
Now thanks to the creative genius of KETO Kitchen's Lora Ruffner, you don't have to feel the frustration and humiliation of staring at a "naked" burger or dog in the middle of your plate! You can eat your burgers and dogs and have your low carb buns, too!
Here's how you can make your own:
Place the ingredients in the bread machine according to your bread machine manufacturer's instructions.
Program for the Dough cycle and press Start.
You will need:
1 Baking sheet
1 Keto Machine French Bread
Oat or soy flour
Parchment-line a baking sheet. After the kneading/rising cycle ends, at the beep immediately remove the dough and place on a lightly floured work surface. (Flour with oat flour, or soy flour.) Divide the dough into 8 equal portions for hamburger or sandwich buns, 10 equal portions for hot dog or long rolls. Form the hamburger buns into tight rounds; form the long rolls by flattening the dough into ovals and rolling up each portion tightly from the long end to form a cylinder. Place the rolls on the baking sheet at least 1 inch apart. Cover lightly with plastic wrap and let rise 30 minutes.
Twenty minutes before baking, preheat the oven to 375¡ F. Place the baking sheet on a rack in the center of the oven and bake until lightly browned, for 15 to 22 minutes depending on the size of the roll. Remove immediately to a cooling rack.
Cool thoroughly before slicing. Calculate carbohydrate grams accordingly per size and amount of rolls made, dividing 48 total carb grams by number of rolls. So when you make 10 hot dog buns, each is 4.8 grams of carbohydrate. With 8 hamburger buns, each is 6 grams of carbohydrate, etc. That's quite a feat considering a standard hamburger bun is between 30 and 38 carbohydrate grams a piece!
